  • Young people visit Bakkafrost Scotland salmon farm

Organised by Loch Lomond Fisheries Trust through our Wild Fisheries Fund project with Jon Gibb, Salmon Scotland and Bakkafrost Scotland hosted a local youth group to visit the site. With the trust’s goal to engage with young people in Garelochhead and to highlight the opportunities within the sector, a deep insight into the work involved at a fish farming site was given.

Bakkafrost Scotland's Michael Hill and Dr Nick Beevers from the Loch Lomond Fisheries Trust helped lead the young people around the site, teaching them about fish health and welfare, salmon anatomy, pen maintenance, salmon monitoring, technological advancements and a general understanding into the farming sector and what job prospects are available.

By engaging with and educating young people like this, we hope to inspire the next generation of salmon farmers.
